Tips to Safeguard Your Laptop from Damage

As a generation who has witnessed the great digital transformation and Industry Revolution 4.0 so closely, we rely on our laptops and other electronic devices for pretty much everything. One main reason behind this is the portability these devices offer.

Look at it this way, these days, a travel blogger and an on-site worker can both work remotely using their laptops and phones. There is nothing that one cannot do from a remote location with the help of digital devices. Right from taking calls to attending webinars, our laptops allow it all.

However, this portability also makes these devices vulnerable to physical damage. With cyber security taking up the majority of the limelight these days, it is easy to overlook the simple chances of damaging our laptops in other ways, both internally and externally.

But no worries, we have curated a list of tips to help you protect your laptop from any severe damage.

Get a Good-Quality, Anti-Theft Backpack

It is better to be safe than sorry. Regardless of the location you live in, you should pay extra attention so that your laptop is safe and well protected in a quality backpack. It is certainly one of the best laptop accessories you can invest in.

These bags are slightly different in design from regular laptop bags with special security features to protect your device and its accessories. They may include an anti-theft feature, secret pockets and zips, cut-proof material, and locking cables in case you want to place them on the floor.

These anti-theft laptop bags are undoubtedly more expensive as opposed to regular ones but cheaper than the cost of the laptop that is at stake.

Keep an eye for extra padding at the bottom of the bag to protect your hard drive from being damaged. Also, check if the material is waterproof and can sustain a little wetness in case you need to step out in the rain with your laptop.

Add Protection With a Laptop Sleeve

When you buy a brand new laptop, you certainly want that added layer of protection from physical damage. It’s a lot of money, of course.

For this added layer of protection, a laptop sleeve is a great idea to invest in. Make sure the sleeve is nicely padded and cushioned to prevent any scratches and dents on your laptop. Place the laptop with the sleeve inside the backpack and make sure it fits the laptop compartment along with the sleeve.

Invest in Device Warranties and Insurance

While purchasing a laptop, go through the warranty policy. A warranty covers most of the damage to your device for a specific period of time. Sometimes these warranties are included in the price of the laptop, and sometimes you might have to purchase them separately.

Likewise, good insurance like AppleCare+ for all Apple products is worth the investment. It safeguards your devices from every type of damage for an extended period of 3 years. Canceling AppleCare+ is simple, and if you wish to cancel it, you need to provide the serial number of the product along with the original sales receipt to Apple Support.

Keep Your Laptop Clean

It is important to ensure that your laptop is clean and decluttered from the inside as well as outside. Regularly clean the screen of your laptop, the keyboard, and all other peripherals that come in your contact on a daily basis.

A dirty and dust-ridden device can easily overheat and might not perform well. Remove any dust from inside and outside of the laptop and other devices to ensure better performance and improved productivity in the long run.

Use Covers to Guard the Exterior

While a sleeve is a good idea and can protect your exteriors well, a skin or a tight cover for your laptop will keep it safe while you are using the device. You should also avoid eating or drinking near your laptop as the food crumbs can get into it, damaging it severely.

Having a screen guard and a sleeve will prevent any tiny particles from getting inside the laptop. So, you may invest in a premium quality sleeve or laptop cover to protect your device from liquid damage.

Avoid Twisting the Cables

Generally, we neglect the power cables since they are the last things to be thrown in the laptop bag. However, they are more delicate than you can think and should not be twisted or bent. Doing this can strip the cables, and they can become risky to use.

A good practice is to wrap these wires around something and use a Velcro band to put them together. This also means they won’t be bent tightly. You can also invest in a cable organizer to protect your cords.
